LIGHT SPEED
On May 31, 2018 I met a man and fell in love.
This came as a shock to me. I had not believed love was possible for a woman past her half century mark. More importantly, I’d overestimated my resolve never to risk my heart again, and underestimated my optimism in love.
I didn’t just fall in love. I hurtled to the ground at light speed. Now my very atoms are strewn all over the pavement as I survey the bloody mess that was once me, unrecognisable as anything that was ever loved.
On September 18, 2019, he threatened to call the police if I did not leave the flat that we’d moved into 5 days before. It was our flat, but it was his lease, and he wanted me gone. I’m still unclear how a lovely afternoon at the cinema ended in the night with such irredeemable actions and words that made happiness forever lost. What is clear was that this was the fourth breakup, and he’d been trying to leave me from our 3rd date.
I guess I should have seen it coming.
