postcard from the edge
My Dearest Friend,
It breaks my heart to see your devastation. Once again, you find yourself in exactly the same place, broken up by the same person, precipitated by the same thing.
I can see you are confused and regretful.
You wish you could take back your question, your request. He’s placed blame squarely on your shoulders, and you are now wearing it like a beloved coat, breathing in the familiar smell, pulling it tighter to you, sobbing into it, believing if you keep it close it keeps him close.
I can sense your desperation and despair when you do that.
But you are on another journey now, one to break your patterns. I am glad; and I urge you to remember the pattern to break isn’t what you’ve been told - that you must stop asking for what you need. The pattern to break is that of believing it is your absence of needs that is what makes you worth loving.
And if you forget, I am here to remind you. So, feel all you feel. Take what time it takes. Be strong, be weak; be kind, be strict; be pathetic, be awesome; just be. Grieve in any, and all the ways you need. Ride the highs and the lows. And know that I’m riding by your side.
Your friend, always.
